I am pushing my self to mediate that calms my inner self and help me deal with situations that can be stressful. When I listen to oceans waves it makes me think of childhood  of going to beach and walking through the waves as they crash against my legs. Some of the audio meditations the person who would be talking would  make want to sleep however there are some many types of meditation we have figure out what works for us no one is the same. When I have time and money I want to get meditation , yoga and tai chi DVDs so I can do it at home to help relax and destress me. I have started reading different books on meditation and self healing. Also when this class is done I am going to continue to blog to use as my virtual journal if anyone wants to continue to read I would love to have some feedback  to help me to keep focused on want I want to do for goals for myself, I want for me to feel good about not just my body image, improve my spirituality and self healing. Unit 9 Final Project Personal Assessment

Unit 9 Final Project
HW420 Professor Mark Maule
Kaplan University
By Samantha E. Colcord
11/12/2014

Introduction: First I looked at psychologically this involves mental health this is important because we respect and how we function and adapt in our lives. Every one lives is satisfying and productive. The general well-being has two sides to a person is happy or not happy to have ups and downs in life is perfectly normal thing to happen. The upside is being positive, calm and peaceful and the downside has 3 factors such as anxiety, depression and no control (Mattiuzzi, 2008). For me personally I don’t have experience as a practitioner also what I have learned with the reading and the different kind of meditation has made a huge improvement in life so far. When I am on the computer I go to youtube and listen to my meditation music of nature it helps me keep calm and quiets my mind and help me focus.
Spiritually is having a sense of purpose this also means to get rid of any stress, connect to the world and share the burden with any support system. Some examples of spiritually is going on nature walks will make someone to have a healthier life style. Meditation involves by eating healthy, quantity and quality of sleep, keeping active, unwind time, joy at work, social health, less illness (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2014).
Physically: When someone is active the long term benefits will equal longer life. By having better sleep will make you feel better also by being active will help with your weight and bring balance to your life such as yoga, tai chi or even meditation
Assessment: Within this course of this class I have done more meditation and found I really enjoy doing it so for spiritually I give myself a 5 because I have room to grow in this aspect. Physically I gave myself a 5 I don’t always have time to try to go for a walk but this last weekend I went for 2 really long walks with my sister in law in the park that looks like a forrest I always feel better after I go for this walks I get my spiritually and physical aspect done in one shot. I try to do a walk everyday it doesn’t always happen as I plan. Psychologically is a 5 I need to work on clearing and calming my mind I have trouble doing that.
Goal development:
Physical aspect I need and want to try to go walk every day or min of 5 days of the week at least 30 minutes. Psychological & Spiritual are kind mixed together they help the spirit and the mind I have been doing meditation I want to do it at least once or twice a day it has helped me personally when I do my meditation. I used it on my step daughter when she throws a tantrum and it helps her to calm down.
Practices for personal health
Physical I set aside time either the morning or afternoon to go walking/hiking.
Psychological is to be aware how our mind works also can be influence such insights and self-awareness.
Spiritual- finds inner peace by practicing such as meditation, yoga or even tai chi
Implement:
I want to start walking/hiking 30-60 minutes a day to have some quiet time to myself to clear my mind also working on this with a girlfriend can make it easier to accomplish. When I am stressed or even overwhelmed I can talk and listen to nature help calms and improve spiritual being within myself. When you do work toward a goal to help improve yourself overall  it help make yourself feel better in the end of the day. When I walk improves my overall health mind, body and spirit.
Psychological: Solo hour within nature you sit in nature for 60 minutes watch and listen to nature (N.A, 2006).
Meditation, Yoga are by spending time each time to relax and refresh also to control breathing even when you have no control in your life (The Art if Living, 2014). I have started throughout this class to listen to some sort of meditation can be while I am reading a book, looking up information or even working assignments for class has helped me to stay more focus and keeps the distractions away from me. By adding more psychological and mind calming exercises  me has made me more focused also reading various books on meditation, Reika has had an impact on my life.
Commitment:
By keeping a journal or blog where I record my journey even if I am having good/bad days with my journey of becoming healthy. It is always better to go walking with someone else you will be more successful. When I can I go walking with my sister in law Chrissy we have a habit of walking at least an hour or more at one time. It is a time when we talk about whatever to each other after we walk we feel so much better. Also after I finish my BS in Health and Wellness I want to pursue my BS in Psychology.

Unit 8

Professor Mark and Class,
I reviewed the loving kindness, subtle mind and my guided meditation. I like loving kindness it makes me relax my mind and  let things go that I have no control over. The person who spoke have a very soothing voice that makes relax and let go off my tension i have in life.this one suggested to do the loving kindness for 2 times a day for 1 week. Another one is a guided meditation depends on the meditation can be the sound of oceans, rain , rivers and streams that sometimes will show words from quotes out of books. I try to do my guided meditation once a day it has helped improve my patience, lowered my stress level even to help deal with my 5 year old daughter tantrums i started meditate while she is in her room and it actually help her calm down, I try to do it my meditation at least once a day it help my my spiritual well being and with things i can't control.

UNIT 7

Hello Professor Mark and Class,
I found this audio meditation quite interesting I did enjoy the sounds of the ocean with a woman voice that is soothing talking about the subtle mind. Also picturing a mentor who you can connect and relate too, the ocean waves I can picture crashing against my legs or rocks are extremely soothing to me.

I think of meditation on a daily basis will help increase our spiritually well being in the end this means to more calm, relaxed and refreshed such as having more patience with children I have a hard time with my step daughter who is 5 and has adjustment disorder and possibly ADHD and Autism we are waiting to get her tested. However I have tried meditation or even soundscape music and helps relax and sooth her.

I honestly think about seeing the divine , how everyone is treated from suffering to healing such as complaints with how and is medical professionals, loss of income . If doctors brought some enjoyment to their profession and better relationships with patients there wouldn't be as much complaints I think anyways. If a patient has inner peace also healthy spiritual will be healthier in the end because they are exercises there mind in a manner of speaking.

Unit 6 Universal Loving Kindness & Assessment Process

Hello Professor and Classmates,

Universal Loving Kindness- is a type of meditation that involves intimate romantic relations that have empathic abilities, such as seeing caring for others, sensitivity, generosity and emotional intimacy. During this process you say a certain phrase over and over for 10 minutes that to help with and be powerful with expanding our mind and heart. Also this can assist with anger, hatred however help us focus and can be used anytime that we think we might need it use it.

Assessment Process- By looking at the four quadrants  by observing ourselves is where we can figure where in our life we are distressed. This when we close our eyes make our mind stillness with mind and body in all aspects of our life what the problem may be in the end. This part of the process may take weeks to even start the healing then to focus means to to start asking questions to help figure what could right or wrong in our lives.

For me personally i would focus on exercise to make myself healthy that doesn't mean my body to be barbie doll perfect. Also work on my spiritual health I have been doing meditation and it has been helping me with stress, patience and me feel more refreshed and not so tired.

Unit 5 Loving Kindness Versus Subtle Mind

Subtle Mind:The first person voice was a man it was dull thankfully it wasn't the main voice during the whole exercise turned out to a woman voice. The soothing  voice describe within this exercise would make us have better patience, focus our mind with our breathing.Listened to ocean waves coming in and out makes me relax.Trying to focus your mind instead of being distracted  and trying to tame your mind.As the waves would come in I would breath in and as they waves go out I would breath out. This exercise gives you more of a focus mind and clarity.

Loving Kindness:
Soothing voices can help a person relax, I find the ocean refreshing and relaxing. This exercise was more of a visual versus only be an audio.

Spiritual wellness to mental and physical well:

After doing my research on my midterm project showed how tai chi, yoga and mediation can improve a person overall health. This helps build a person spiritual well being. This includes mental health and reduce if you have anxiety, depression are some examples. I have started to mediatate it has helped with my stress level also started to have better control over my temper and patience with my step daughter .Who has bad tatrum and adjustment disorder and she is only 5 also she goes to therapy every week. I have started to mediatate to help with her anxiety that she suffers from her adjustment disorder besides other symptoms she may have.

Unit 4 Loving Kindness

Describe your experience. Did you find it beneficial? Difficult? Why or why not? Would you recommend this to others? Why or why not?

While I was listening loving kindness, the person voice I heard is soothing along with hearing the ocean waves hitting the beach shore or even rocks. The sounds of the ocean waves sounds make me think of walking on the beach as the water touches my feet.  me personally I have always loved going to the beach and just listening to sounds that the ocean makes or the sounds rain makes as it hits the roof of the house is quite relaxing to me. This exercise was quite relaxing to me because I find ocean sounds refreshing, soothing and relaxing. I would have friends and family try this sounds of nature are relaxing.
What is the concept of "mental workout"? What does the research indicate are the proven benefits of a mental workout? How can you implement mental workouts to foster your psychological health?

The concept of mental workout is 2 contemplative practice loving kindness  and subtle mind. Research showed  the benefits that will tame and train the mind however also have us open up our mind of our heart . To implement an mental workout to possible to try in our daily routine. Me personally you can add yoga, meditation, Tai Chi or even belly dancing along with any physical activities you may have in your life.I have started to do more meditation during the week has helped me with my spiritual health.
